Sarajevo is the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, its metropolis and its largest urban, cultural, economic and transportation center, the capital of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the center of the Sarajevo Canton.Through the city flows the river Miljacka, and close to the city is the source of the river Bosna, a popular picnic site Vrelo Bosne. Around the city are the Olympic mountains Jahorina, Bjelašnica, Igman, Treskavica and Trebević which are especially favorite winter resorts for tourists from all over the world.
Sarajevo is a relatively small city compared to world capitals, but his name through a rich spiritual, historical and natural look better known by the names of some major world cities. In 1914 the Austro-Hungarian throne Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie was killed, which was the start of the First World War. Seventy years later, in 1984, the city held the 14th Winter Olympics.
